In Situ X‑Ray Diffraction Study on Hydrate Formation at Low Temperature in a High Vacuum
The condition for incorporating simple gases with H 2 O to form clathrate hydrates in protosolar nebula is a subject of topical interest. Methane and carbon dioxide clathrate hydrates have been speculated to exist in outer solar system bodies, but they have eluded direct detection so far. We have constructed a low-temperature and high-vacuum system to prepare and study clathrate hydrates by in situ synchrotron X-ray diffraction experiments.Upon heating, we found clathrate hydrates can be obtained from the codeposition of methane or carbon dioxide with water outside the equilibrium thermodynamic stability region under high vacuum. We suggested that the hydrate formation is assisted by the phase transformations in the ice, which provide the necessary activation energy to increase the mobility of the guest and water molecules. The results provide a new perspective on how “metastable” gas hydrate can be formed.

The A56-230 is a high speed VCSEL driver IC designed for directly modulated VCSELs in fiber optic transmission systems. The VCSEL driver IC is designed to directly modulate common-cathode VCSEL. The IC has differential input (Vin+, Vin-) and single-ended output to the VCSEL anode. A ground for the VCSEL common cathode is also provided by the IC. It is operated with a single 3.3 V supply typically dissipating less than 200 mW of DC power when no load (VCSEL) is connected at the output. The driver is also equipped with various analog control pins (Vxing, Vmod, Vbias). The zero-crossing can be adjusted with the Vxing pin. The VCSEL modulation current is controlled by varying the bias current swing with the Vmod, and the VCSEL bias current is controlled by Vbias pin.

Optical diffraction analysis can visualize twist structures with amplitudes far below the amplitude of the surface roughness. Applying this method, the quality control can be realized quickly and reliable within the production process. Testing times of a few seconds are making the device applicable in many cases, for example at the reception control, for optimization of the manufacturing process and even for the 100%-control in the serial production.

Thermocouple Feedthroughs
Type-K — Offers broadest temperature range (-200°C to +1250°C), and is the most widely used thermocouple type. For these reasons Accu-Glass supports Type-K with feedthroughs having Chromel® and Alumel® pins and mating contacts for maximum accuracy. Matched pin material for Type-T, J, E, S, R and C thermocouple are not available. Use of standard instrumentation feedthroughs with gold-plated nickel-iron alloy pins, and goldplated copper alloy contacts are offered instead. The error introduced using these pins and contacts is less than 2%. Cable Assemblies — Air side and UHV cable assemblies for all thermocouple types. Refer to specific cables for construction details.
